How old does a car have to be to qualify for classic car insurance?

My grandpa was a collector of older cars, and when he passed away a few years ago, he left me his 1964 Jaguar Mark 2. I want to drive the car he left me—it's absolutely beautiful—but I believe he canceled his insurance policy. How old does a car have to be to qualify for classic car insurance and how can I insure this car?

First of all, wow—that sounds like a beautiful car! Second, I’m happy to report that you can get
classic insurance
for the Jaguar Mark 2—but depending on your carrier, your coverage may vary.
Generally speaking, the car should be 25 years or older to qualify for classic insurance and should be fully restored.
Some carriers, however, have different age requirements.
GEICO
, for example, only requires the vehicle to be 25 years or older.
State Farm
, on the other hand, would classify your Jaguar as an antique car, since it’s more than 40 years old and has historical interest, and they would insure it as such.
Whether you insure it as a classic or an antique, if you want to get the best deal on coverage, sites like
Jerry
can make finding coverage a stress-free process—we’ll get you free quotes from multiple providers so that you can make sure you’re getting the best deal possible.
Best of luck, and happy driving!
