How often do cops show up for traffic court?

I recently received a citation for speeding, but I was only going 9 mph over. I think this was poor judgment on the part of the cop, especially because other cars were passing me. That’s why I want to fight the ticket. A friend told me that if the cop doesn’t show up for the hearing, the ticket gets dismissed. How often do cops fail to show up for traffic court?

Getting a
traffic ticket
for only going 9 mph is definitely bad luck, but you still were speeding. Unfortunately, cops almost always show up for traffic court, as it’s their duty and job to do so. As a result, counting on a cop failing to show up isn’t a great strategy for getting rid of your ticket.
If you want to fight the ticket, a better approach is to hire a lawyer. Traffic lawyers are well-versed in fighting these types of tickets, so for a few hundred bucks, you might be able to plead to a lesser charge. The chances of this happening can improve drastically if it’s your first offense, so you might use that to your advantage.
Whether you plead guilty to a lesser charge or get a speeding ticket, your car insurance rates are likely to increase. But before you plop down payment, use the
