renters insurance
policy will—and will not—cover:- Water damage caused by a water pipe or appliance that breaks unexpectedly inside your rental is covered. However, if you ignore a leaky pipe or water tank and then it bursts, your losses won’t be covered. And if your landlord’s been negligent, then she’s responsible for the damage.
- Water damage caused by flooding and storm surges are not covered by standard renters insurance. If you live in an area that’s prone to flooding, consider purchasing a policy through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private insurer.
