How much is the driving test fee in Texas?

I’m trying to decide if I should take the driving test through my driving school or if I should just go to the DPS. Is one cheaper than the other? How much is the fee to take a driving test in Texas?

It’s exciting that you’re getting ready to take your driving test! It’s definitely cheaper to take the driving test through the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in
Texas
. The fee to take the driving test in Texas through the DPS is $25.
This fee covers the cost of three attempts and acts as your license fee if you pass. You may have to pay an extra dollar for administrative fees, but the total cost won’t be much higher than that. Your driving school may be more convenient, but it’s likely that they’ll charge extra fees.
Taking the driving test at your driving school, however, can cost anywhere from $25 to $150. Some schools only offer the written portion of the test, and some may charge you up to $50 if you need to use the school car for your driving portion. Make sure you ask what is included in the fee and how much you can expect to pay—it may be worth just heading over to the DPS office, after all!
