How much is renters flood insurance?

I live in Louisiana. I’m moving into my first apartment and my parents want to make sure I have a renters insurance policy. They mentioned that I should also add flood insurance to it. How much does renters flood insurance cost?

Since you live in
Lousiana
, your parents are right; flood insurance is a great idea! While it’s not as common as homeowners flood insurance, renters can get flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program starting at about $100 a year.
Traditional renters insurance policies exclude flooding. Additionally, even if your landlord has a flood policy, this doesn’t cover your personal property. For personal property coverage after flood damage, a renter needs to purchase a flood insurance policy through FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
While rates will vary based on your location and how much coverage you need, renters flood insurance policies typically start at $100 a year. To find out what your rate will be, you’ll want to contact NFIP directly for your options and rate.
Since your flood insurance will be a separate policy, consider using
