How much is it to reinstate my car insurance?

This last year was really hard for me. I lost my job and blew through most of my savings. Because of this, I wasn't able to pay my car insurance premiums, and my policy was canceled. I'm finally in a better place, and I want to get my policy reinstated so that I can drive again. How do I get my car insurance reinstated and how much will it cost?

First of all, I am so sorry for the year that you’ve had—it sounds immeasurably tough, and kudos to you for being able to keep yourself and your family afloat.
If your coverage was canceled, that means that you have a
lapsed policy
, which can be both expensive and a little tougher to reinstate—but it’s far from impossible.
With a lapsed policy, you will be required to pay any unpaid premiums when you contact your prior insurance company, and there might be a reinstatement fee. Your future rates might also increase, unfortunately.
If the rate your insurance provider gives you is out of reach, it can be cheaper to shop around for new coverage. Using a tool like
Jerry
can be an easy way to do this—we’ll get you free quotes from different providers so you can be sure that you’re getting the best deal possible, without having to take hours to shop around different sites.
Best of luck—and remember, you’ve got this.
