How many spark plugs does an RX8 have?
I recently bought a Mazda RX8 and it’s a well-oiled machine! However, I want to give it a tune-up, as the previous owner said he hadn’t done so in almost a decade. I’m making a checklist of things I need to make the job easier. How many spark plugs does a Mazda RX8 need?

The RX8 needs four spark plugs, although you may have a bit more trouble installing them than on other vehicles.

Mazda RX8
has a rotary engine, which uses rotors instead of cylinders. While the engine works differently than a typical internal combustion engine, it still needs spark plugs to work correctly. Each rotor requires a leading and trailing spark plug. The RX8 has two rotors—hence the four spark plugs.Always refer to the owner’s manual for the location of these spark plugs, as they’re a bit more tricky to find than on a cylinder-based engine.
