How many hours of driving are required before you can get your license in California?

I just got my permit, and I’m ready to fly solo! But I know I need to get some practice hours with my parents under my belt. How many hours of driving practice do I need before I can get my license in California?

I’m totally stoked for you, congrats on your new permit! Before you’re ready to fly solo, you’ll need to have at least 50 hours of driving practice in the state of
California
. Ten of these hours must include
night driving
.
A parent, guardian, or an adult 25 years of age or older must be with you during these hours and sit close enough to the driver’s side (in the front passenger’s seat should work) that they can take control of the vehicle if needed.
If you’re under 17 ½ years of age, you’ll also need to complete six hours of professional driving training with a professional driving school. You can read more about what you can do to prepare in the California Driver’s Manual provided by the DMV.
