How many hours does driving from Los Angeles to Canada take?

I want to take my grandparents on a trip to Canada—they’ve never been but they really want to go. Unfortunately, they aren’t great with long car rides, so we can only drive a few hours every day. How many hours does it typically take to drive from Los Angeles to Canada?

LA is pretty far south as far as the United States go, and the Great White North doesn’t have north in the name for nothing! That said, driving from Los Angeles to Canada takes around 36 hours, and that’s not counting traffic or the time it takes to reach a major city.
If you still want to make the drive but can’t spend too many hours behind the wheel each day, you should plan a few weeks for the trip. Driving five hours a day would take you a full week to reach Canada. Once you account for the drive back, you’re spending nearly two weeks in the car.
Unfortunately, driving isn’t a practical way to reach Canada if your goal is to enjoy another country. Of course, there are plenty of great places to see in
California
, Oregon, and Washington along the way. So if you have the time to make frequent stops, it could be a worthwhile trip.
But if you’re only hoping to visit Canada, then you’d probably be best off flying there and renting a car at the airport.
