How many cylinders are in a Mitsubishi Outlander?

How many cylinders are in a Mitsubishi Outlander? I’m looking at the new model year and trying to compare the standard and the hybrid.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander utilizes four cylinders in its engine. Here’s what its engine specs look like:
  • Displacement: 2.5 liters
  • Horsepower: 181 @ 3,600 rpm
  • Torque: 181 lb-ft @ 6,000 rpm
That engine works in combination with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and your choice between front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive, however, is the standard.
Beyond that standard option, there’s also the plug-in hybrid Outlander option, also with four cylinders and paired with two electric motors. Its other main engine characteristics include:
  • Displacement: 2.4 liters
  • Horsepower: 126 @ 4,500 rpm
  • Torque: 147 lb-ft @ 4,500 rpm
If you’re curious about fuel economy, the 2023 Outlander ranges from 23-24 city mpg, 28-31 highway mpg, and 25-27 combined mpg, based on EPA estimates.
Either option is relatively solid for a crossover SUV, but there are other options out there that offer more power if you’re looking for it.
