How many cars are in Louisiana?
I just moved to New Orleans. After checking out some other places in the state, I noticed that public transit is awful, meaning everyone needs to have a car. So out of curiosity, how many cars are there in Louisiana?

The Big Easy is one of the more interesting places to live in the country, offering unique cuisine, culture, and history. Unfortunately, it can be a pain to drive in the city and the rest of the state due to traffic and the number of vehicles.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that there are 3.8 million cars in
Louisiana
. The good news is the number of registered vehicles has fallen 1% since 2015 despite an increase in population. This may improve Louisiana’s driving situation to some degree, but two cities have particularly poor reputations:
- Baton Rouge is the 11th-worst city for driving in America
- New Orleans is the 25th-worst city for driving in the country
While you can’t entirely blame these reputations on the number of cars, poor public transportation, a low rate of insured drivers, and lack of law enforcement make Louisiana one of the more dangerous places to drive.
