I’m going to Vegas next week on business, but thinking of taking a few days off afterward to finally visit the Grand Canyon. What’s the best route to the South Rim from Las Vegas?

Of course, if you have the time, taking some short detours will maximize your experience, allowing you to reach some fantastic attractions along Route 66 and the Hoover Dam.
For example, if you leave Vegas and head towards Oatman, you’ll get to start your trip along “Bloody” Route 66, which cuts through the rocky Black Mountains.
Feel free to spend a couple of hours exploring the Old West town of Oatman. Try a double buffalo burger from the Oatman Hotel Restaurant, and watch out for the mules on Main Street. If you’re in town in the afternoon, check out the daily Wild West shootout from the Ghost Rider Gunfighters!
Once you get back on Route 66, you’ll pass Cool Spring Station’s vintage fuel pumps and the iconic Route 66 sign. If you’d like to stop somewhere and stay overnight, we recommend the town of Williams. From there, it’s just an hour’s drive along AZ-64 North to the South Rim.
