Produced from 1978 to 1981, only 453 BMW M1s were made with 399 going to private buyers and the other 54 equipped for motorsports. Due to its rarity, the M1 has become a highly collectible car, fetching as much as $500,000 or more at auction.
What makes the M1 an interesting vehicle is its style, power, and many of its design cues. It was the first and now only the second BMW vehicle to date to have a mid-engine layout. This 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 supplied between 273 and 400 horsepower and allowed the driver to go from zero-to-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 165 mph.
