How long should I keep my car insurance records?

I'm trying to get more organized with my files and stuff, but I don't want to throw away anything important. How long should I be keeping insurance documents for?

It’s great that you’re trying to keep your files organized! The amount of time you should keep different documents will vary depending on the document, but you will not need to keep your policy documents for over a year.
You should get a new set of policy documents yearly, sometimes even more often. Once you get those documents you won’t need your old ones anymore.
Additionally, if you
sell your car
, it’s unlikely that you’ll need any documents associated with it in the future, since the policy is no longer in effect.
While you’re going through your insurance documents, take a look at your policy. If you’re unhappy with what you see, or if you’d just like to know what else is out there, check out the
Jerry
app. We’ll collect customized insurance quotes for you, so you can easily make sure that you’re getting the best deal on the coverage you need. And if you pick a new plan, we’ll even help you switch!
Hope this helps, and best of luck with the organization!
