How long does one driving lesson take?

My son wants to learn how to drive, but we are just so busy—I can’t imagine it will be easy to schedule. How long is 1 driving lesson?

Sounds like your son is ready to take a big step, but you will want to make sure you can find adequate time for him to
learn how to drive
. A standard private driving lesson usually only takes one to two hours.
New drivers are encouraged to receive 45 hours of guided instruction on average. Keep the following things in mind when accounting for your son’s learning schedule:
  • Driver’s education (class and time requirements vary by state)
  • Supervised hours with a parent or guardian (hourly requirements vary by state)
If your son has to take driver’s education, there will probably be some driving lessons involved with the instructor. Check your state’s requirement to schedule driving lessons accordingly.
Once your son is ready to hit the road, make sure you find time to
add your new driver to your car insurance
. If you’re worried about how your rates could change, try using the car insurance super app
