How long can a baby stay in a car seat?

My husband and I are going on our first road trip with our new baby. How long can you safely leave a baby in a car seat?

Road trips
are a great way to build fond family memories—even if some of you won’t be forming long-term memories for a few more months. You shouldn’t have any trouble traveling with an infant, because a baby can stay in a car seat for up to two hours.
If you’ll be driving farther than that, you’ll need to:
  • Take breaks—both you and your baby will need frequent breaks from being cooped up in the car
  • Let the baby stretch—just like you’re feeling stiff after being strapped into a seat for a prolonged period, so is your baby
  • See to their needs before hitting the road again—feeding, changing, and playing are things you should take care of while you’re at a rest stop or gas station, not while you’re busy driving
While you can certainly expect at least a few meltdowns, following these tips ought to make for a more enjoyable trip for everyone.
Make your downtime in the car productive (if you’re the passenger) by downloading the
