How have electric cars changed over time?
I’ve heard that electric cars have existed since the early 1900s, how have electric cars changed over time?

Great question! Electric cars are definitely not as well-known, and in the time since they were first invented they have increased in speed, longevity, and design.
When electric cars were first invented in the 1880s they were not built for speed as much as they were for an alternative to horse-drawn carriages. Since road infrastructures were not as sophisticated as they are now especially outside of the city, speed wasn’t the main focus so much as reliable transportation was. Most people didn’t have their own car much less than one car per family.
In the present day, many people have their own vehicles and freeway driving is standard for most people’s day-to-day commute so vehicles must be able to driveway faster than five miles per hour. Modern electric cars are also better suited for longer periods of use; new lithium-ion batteries could last up to 20 years.
Electric cars like Tesla have focused on fighting climate change with luxury. Modern EV design is now also focused on the aesthetic in addition to the zero-emissions element. Features like parking assist cameras, touchscreen displays, and even some driverless features are common in electric vehicles.
