How far can you drive on a bad wheel bearing?

I’ve got a bad wheel bearing, but my car seems to be holding up pretty well so far, and I’m a little surprised. Honestly, how far can you drive on a bad wheel bearing?

Oh no, it’s definitely a bad idea to continue driving on a bad wheel bearing! Typically, you shouldn’t exceed 1,000 miles on a bad wheel bearing.
Driving for distances longer than 1,000 miles could lead to serious complications with your vehicle. Continuing to put stress on this wheel bearing will also hurt the hub, CV joint, and even the transmission. Over time, this can create irreparable damage to your vehicle, and also poses a huge safety risk to you and others around you.
If you simply want to drive your vehicle a short distance to the repair shop, and the damage is still new and mild, it will probably be okay if you drive at a slow and steady speed.
For more severe damage, however, it would be best to
hire a tow truck
to prevent further damage. If the broken wheel bearing causes your brakes to fail, you could lose control of the car and get into an accident.
Now that you’ve saved your car from imminent danger, it’s time to save on your car insurance.
