How far can an electric car go on one charge?
I travel long distances in my car a lot for work, and I’m not sure if it makes sense for me to buy an electric car. How far will I be able to travel in an electric vehicle before having to recharge my battery?

Long-distance traveling can be a drag, especially if you have to worry about whether you’ll make it to your appointments on time. The reality is that the distance an electric vehicle (EV) can go on one charge depends completely on the particular car—while some have ranges that rival their gas-powered counterparts, others can’t go 100 miles without plugging into a charger.
It partly has to do with the age of the vehicle. Most of the EVs released at the beginning of the 2010s, for example, weren’t equipped with the kind of batteries current models run on. The Nissan Leaf released in the first year of that decade had a maximum range of 84 miles.
But if, like most people entering the EV market, you’re thinking of buying a
new electric car
, you won’t have to worry about range nearly as much as you would with an older car. While there are still models with batteries that last around the 100-mile range, there are plenty of long-range EVs to choose from. Almost every EV from the 2022 model year being sold in the U.S. has an EPA-tested range of over 200 miles, so you should be all set for mileage.
