I’m looking forward to taking my new pop-up camper to the mountains this summer with my group of friends. If we need extra power, I’m wondering if we can just use the battery in my pick-up to power the camper. How do you use car batteries to generate electricity for a pop-up camper?

are simply the best! They allow you to explore the world while still having some of your favorite comforts from home. However, before you set out on the open road, it’s important to make sure you’re familiar with the dos and don’ts of your pop-up camper. Here’s what we know about using car batteries to generate electricity for pop-up campers:
- Car batteries are not designed to generate the type of power a pop-up camper needs, even though they may seem like the perfect substitute. They’re also not designed to be drained and then rapidly recharged.
- Car batteries are constantly being charged by alternators and are meant for quick starts. They lack a high amount of amp hours for long uses off the charger.
- If you’re in a pinch, technically you can use your car’s battery. However, if it’s used in this manner for a long period of time it’s likely to permanently damage the battery.
While it’s not recommended to use the one from your car, batteries are still needed for your travel trailer for appliances, heating, A/A, electronic wheel breaks, etc. The most common options include deep cycle batteries, flooded-cell batteries, and lithium batteries.
