How do you transfer insurance from one car to another?

Can you switch your car insurance over to a different car? My car was totaled in an accident and I just replaced it. I never canceled my insurance policy, so I'd like to transfer my insurance from my totaled car to my new car. What should I do?

“To
transfer insurance
from one car to another, you should call your insurance company. While some companies will allow you to add and remove vehicles online, it’s typically preferred that you call the company.
You’ll definitely need to know your vehicle identification number, or VIN, to transfer your insurance to the new car. Your insurance company may also request the make, model, and license plate number, so have that information on hand as well just in case.
Note that since you still have an active
car insurance
policy, your new vehicle should be covered temporarily. Most states have a 14 to 30-day grace period after you purchase a new vehicle. If you don’t automatically add your new vehicle to your policy, your coverage should transfer over to it for the length of the grace period.
However, it’s always recommended to add your new car to your insurance policy as soon as possible.
If your current coverage is lacking or seems pricey, you can always shop around for better rates. The

app makes it easy. Jerry will gather quotes from up to 50 top insurance companies in seconds and deliver low-cost rates directly to your phone for free.”
