X3 key fob. Some BMW fobs’ batteries aren’t replaceable because they are rechargeable. To charge a key fob of this design, you’ll simply need to drive your car for at least 30 minutes with the key in the ignition.
If you do in fact have a key fob with a replaceable battery, however, you can change out the battery by following these steps:
First, you’ll need to remove the metal key by pressing down on the metal tab at the bottom of your key fob and sliding the key out of place.
Next, insert a flathead screwdriver into the small hole left behind and pry the two halves of the key fob apart.
Note where the negative and positive ends of the battery are situated, then carefully remove the old battery from your key fob.
Insert your new battery, making sure that the negative and positive ends are installed in the correct positions.
Press the two halves of the key back together until you hear a click, then reinsert your metal key.
Test your key fob to make sure that the battery is working properly.
