How do you remove the spare tire from a Toyota Highlander?
I just blew my tire. I know how to change it, but I don’t know how to take the spare off my car! What’s the best way to remove the spare tire from my Toyota Highlander?

Blowing out your tire
is a frustrating experience—but it’s also a great learning opportunity.Once you pull to the side of the road, you can follow these steps to remove the spare tire from your Toyota Highlander:
- Open the floor of your trunk by pulling the fabric tab by your trunk hook.
- You should see a few slots with tools for removing the tire.
- Take the bent wire with a hook at the end and loop the hook through the silver ring to your right.
- Anchor the top of the wire and turn it counterclockwise to lower the tire.
- Keep turning the wire even after the tire hits the floor—you’ll need extra slack to detach the tire from the wire.
- Pull the tire out from under your car with the wire. You should see a platform under the tire and a large bolt with a wire in the center of it.
- Push the bolt through the hole in the tire to release it.
- Once you’ve changed your tire, put the old one on the platform, loop the bolt through its center, and turn the wire clockwise to attach it to the bottom of your car.
