How do you remove rusted screws?
My car has some rusty screws that just won’t budge no matter how hard I try. I’d rather not go to the mechanic for something so trivial. How do you remove rusted screws properly?

Rusted screws can be really tricky to deal with!
You can remove a rusted screw by doing the following:
- Apply penetrating oil to the threads of the screw to loosen it
- Using a new or relatively new screwdriver, dip the end in some household cleanser. An abrasive screwdriver with more bite on the screwhead is best.
- Turn the screw with one hand and push down on the screwdriver with the other
If these steps don’t work, you can also drill the screwhead off—just be careful about the surrounding components and panelling.
