How do you remove a pin from the electrical connector of a car radio?
Trying to de-pin a wire using my screwdriver proved to be unsuccessful. I want to pimp out my car radio, but I’m still a beginning-level mechanic. What’s the best way to remove a pin from the electrical connector of a car radio?

That sounds like a fun summer project! Using a screwdriver can make it tricky to see your work, yet using a needle can cause damage to the connector.
The
automotive world
and aftermarket are full of connectors. There are different methods and techniques when it comes to de-pinning electrical connectors. It’s essential to have the right set of strong tools for your repair with narrow tips and shafts.Here’s how to remove a pin from an electrical connector in your car:
- Remove the front cap (green covering) by using a de-pin tool to pull the front cap out and off carefully. The goal is to expose the catches, known as the tiny plastic pieces that hold the pins in place.
- Release the catches. With a mini screwdriver or connector depin tool, carefully lift up the catch.
- Simultaneously, release the catch (lift up or away from the terminal) and gently** pull **the wire corresponding to the terminal being released. It’s crucial that lifting up the catch and pulling the wire happens at the same time. Or else, you risk damaging the pigtail.
