How do you prevent a car from getting stuck in the snow?
What’s the best way to prevent my car from getting stuck in the snow during the winter? I left my car outside a few nights ago, and a huge storm piled snow all around it. I’m new to snow country, and I’d like to find out how to avoid this in the future.

It can be frustrating when your car gets stuck in the snow. But try not to worry—it’s a common issue.
You can use these tips to prevent your car from getting stuck in the snow:
- Park inside if you can. It won’t be an option for everyone, but your car won’t get stuck if it’s not in the snow.
- Ease up on the gas and shovel a path if you think you’re stuck. Sometimes drivers will try to get out of the snow by pressing the gas. But spinning wheels can get rid of the little traction you have, leaving you in a worse position. Start by shoveling any snow in your way.
- If you think you’re stuck when you move forward, try moving backward! Sometimes you can free your car by driving in reverse. Shifting between reverse and drive can also help you gain enough momentum to rock your car out!
- Keep solid wood planks or sandbags on hand. One of the biggest reasons people get stuck in the snow is a lack of traction. If you have planks or sandbags with you, you can place them under your wheels to provide traction and allow you to get back on the road.
Unfortunately, getting stuck in the snow is a common occurrence in colder areas. That being said, the best steps you can take are usually preventative. Make sure your car has plenty of
