How do you open the gas tank on a 2013 BMW 328i?

It’s my first week in a new car (it’s new to me, anyways) and I’m really struggling to adjust to all the controls. In my old car there was a lever on the floor that I could pull to open the gas tank, but there’s nothing like that anywhere in this one. I’m starting to run low on gas, and I’d hate to run out (or struggle publicly at the gas pump) all because I’m stupid. How do I open the gas tank in a 2013 BMW 328i?

Learning the mechanics of a new car can get confusing—we’ve all been there! Thankfully, opening the gas tank on a 2013
BMW 328i
is as simple as pressing on the fuel-filler door.
Pressing on the fuel-filler door should be enough to release the latch that holds it in place. With the latch released, you can pull the door back completely to unscrew the gas cap and refuel your tank! Always make sure your vehicle is turned off before you begin fueling up!
If pressing on the fuel-filler door isn’t doing the trick, it could be that the latch is stuck. If that’s the case, you may have to open the door manually via the cargo bay. Just remove the cover located on the right-hand side of the cargo bay, then pull on the knob to release the door (the knob should have an icon of a fuel pump on it).
Your owner’s manual recommends using premium-grade gasoline that’s rated at 89 octanes or higher. While it’s not totally necessary, you’re likely to see a better performance from your vehicle when using a higher-grade fuel. But whatever you do, don’t use leaded fuel!
Leaded fuel can cause irreparable damage to your BMW’s
catalytic converter
—and repair costs for this pricey part can range into the thousands.
