That was probably scary, but I’m glad you weren’t hurt. Thankfully, it’s fairly easy to replace car boot gas struts.
To fix car boot gas struts, here’s what you’ll need to do:
Order new struts. You should be able to find the correct type for your make and model either online or through an auto part store.
Have a helper hold open your hatchback door. Make sure they hold on tightly, as you’ll be removing the strut.
Take a flat head screwdriver and put it between the ball socket housing and the metal retaining clip. Do the same on the bottom part of the strut, which attaches to your car. Doing so should release the clip, allowing you to remove the strut.
Repeat on the other side.
Attach new boot struts in the same way you removed them. You won’t need a screwdriver, just be sure to fully insert the new strut into the ball joint and lock it with the retaining clip.
Test your door by opening and closing it.
If this process seems overwhelming, or you can’t get the struts in properly, visit a professional! You don’t want to risk further ruining your hatchback. Also, avoid using any oil or lubricant. Using oil on your gas struts can worsen issues, so it’s better to leave additional repairs to a professional.
Once you get your gas struts in working order, consider also taking some time to review your car insurance
