If you feel confident with the basic mechanics of your car and are willing to do a little research, you can definitely handle some fixes like a shorted electrical circuit yourself. To fix an electrical circuit, you will have to take the following steps:
Disconnect the negative pole of the battery and connect your circuit test light to the negative pole. If it lights up, this will tell you if you have a short in your system.
Pull the vehicle fuses one by one until the light no longer turns on. Once you’ve found this fuse, you’ve found the short.
Identify the path from the circuit with the short to the fuse box. Once you’ve found the short you can either wrap the exposed wire in electrical tape to seal the bare wire or cut the wire at the point of the short and install a new connector.
