My seat belt quit retracting and I don’t know how to get it reeled back in. Is there a way to fix a broken seat belt retractor?

A seat belt that won’t return all the way can either be caused by the seat belt locking or a broken seat belt retractor. There are some things you can try before you take your car into a repair shop, but if your retractor is broken, you’ll want to take it in and have it repaired.
  • If the belt is all the way out, try feeding it back in and checking for tangles
  • If the belt is partially out and won’t retract, pull it out all the way then slowly feed it back through
If neither of these options work, go ahead and take your vehicle in to a repair shop.
