Over time, not only will dirt get inside a car’s lights, but the surface will also oxidize.
To clean the inside of car lights, you will first need to remove the headlight housing. This is not the actual lightbulb but the casing that protects it.
Next, you’ll need to clean the inside of the housing with soap. For best results, use an automotive cleaner and a sponge. After scrubbing, rinse the lights thoroughly, then wipe them dry with a microfiber cloth. It’s important that no soap, water, or—most importantly—dirt remains.
Optionally, finish by applying a headlight restoring solution. You can find this at auto part shops or online. The solution should help prevent dirt from accumulating and oxidization from forming again.
Finally, when your lights are completely dry (wait no less than 30 minutes), replace the headlight housing. Ensure that it is sealed properly upon installation.
