How do you change the tail light bulb on a Volkswagen Beetle?
The tail light in my bug went out, and I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t want to take it to the shop for something so simple. How do you replace the tail light bulb in a VW Beetle?
, you need a small flat head screwdriver, a pair of gloves, and the replacement bulb. To get started, look up the replacement part number in your owner’s manual and buy the new bulb. Then do the following:
Open the trunk and look for the round access panel on the affected side
Pry up the access panel with your flat head screwdriver and move it aside
Remove the black thumb screw by hand
Pull out tail light assembly
Twist the light bulb socket counterclockwise to remove
Remove old bulb
Wearing gloves to avoid smudges, install the new bulb in the socket
Replace the socket, tail light assembly, thumb screw, and access panel
Close the trunk and test the new bulb
You’re done! Your bug should have a working tail light now, and you can avoid a ticket.
