How do you change the rotors on a 2012 Toyota Corolla?

My brakes started acting funny, so I took my Corolla into the shop and they said it’s the rotors—and then told me it’ll be over $300 to replace them! I looked up the part online and it’s like half that. Is it possible to change the rotors on a 2012 Toyota Corolla myself? How?

It’s smart to try doing smaller maintenance tasks at home to save—and yes, you can totally change your 2012
Toyota Corolla
rotors yourself.
To get started, look up the part number for the rotors you need, and buy the replacements. Once you have them, do the following:
  • Park and secure the vehicle on flat ground
  • Place a jack stand under the axle where you’ll be working
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel near the rotor you want to remove
  • Remove the wheel
  • Lift the brake caliper off the brake rotor and move it out of the way (don’t let it hang!)
  • Slide brake pads out of the brake caliper bracket, then remove the bracket
  • Rock the rotor back and forth until you can slide it off the spindle
  • Install the new rotor
  • Reinstall other parts in reverse order
  • Put the tire back on
Done! You just changed the rotor on your 2012 Toyota Corolla! You can repeat these same steps if you have more than one rotor that needs replacing.
