Performing basic car repairs yourself is a great way to save money! Fortunately, changing your transmission fluid is fairly straightforward. However, the following information should not replace the advice of a professional mechanic.
Use a 17-mm socket to remove the filler plug, which should be underneath the car on the passenger’s side. You should see some fluid start to drip out when you do this, so have a pan ready to catch the liquid.
Then, use a 3/8-inch socket wrench to remove the drain plug, which is located next to the filler plug.
Allow the transmission to drain completely, then replace the drain bolt and torque it to 39 Nm, or 29 pounds per foot.
Attach a small pump attachment to your bottle of transmission fluid.
Route the tube from your pump into the filler hole, then pump the fluid into the reservoir.
Once the filler hole has fluid running out, stop pumping and let any excess fluid drip out into your pan.
Replace the filler plug and tighten it to 44 Nm, or 33 pounds per foot.
You’re all done! Congratulations, you’ve changed your manual transmission fluid at home.
