How do you change a Honda Civic light bulb?

My mom drives a 2010 Honda Civic. Recently, she noticed one of her bulbs on the passenger side was burnt out. She called me to help her replace this bulb, but frankly, I’m not sure how to do it either. What’s the best way to replace a headlight bulb on a Civic?

That’s nice of you to help your mom! Thankfully, changing a headlight bulb on a
Honda Civic
is a pretty straightforward task. To change a Honda Civic light bulb, you will need to:
  1. Locate the battery. Take a 10mm socket or ratchet to loosen the bolts holding the battery. Sliding the battery to the side gives you easier access to the headlight.
  2. Once you have more space to reach the headlight assembly, locate the wires attached to the back of the headlight. Remove them by squeezing the plastic tabs together.
  3. There is a rubber seal behind the headlight assembly. Turn the seal 1/4 counterclockwise or use a flathead screwdriver to help pry off the tab.
  4. Behind the rubber seal is a retaining wire that holds the bulb in place. To remove the bulb from the wire, slide the wire away. Note that the retaining clip is thin and delicate, so don’t apply too much pressure, or it can break.
  5. Put in a new bulb and slide the retaining wire back into place.
  6. Put everything back in the reverse order.
  7. Before you close the hood, remember to slide the battery back in place and tighten the bolts.
And just like that, you changed the headlight bulb!
