How do I turn on 4WD on a Toyota Highlander?

I have a 2013 Toyota Highlander that I just got a great deal on from a private seller. He said it has four-wheel drive, but I’m not sure how to turn it on. How do I turn on 4WD on my Toyota Highlander?

The person you bought the 2013
Toyota Highlander
is almost correct; a Highlander has AWD (all-wheel drive), not 4WD (four-wheel drive). However, AWD provides a level of steering and handling that’s remarkable. To turn on your AWD on a Toyota Highlander, you don’t need to do anything, as it automatically engages every time you get behind the wheel.
If you’re bummed that you don’t have 4WD, don’t be. AWD provides many great benefits, including:
  • Greater grip around corners or turns
  • Better traction in snow, sleet, and ice
  • No need to decide whether or not to turn the system on like you would with 4WD
