Traveling long distances with an electric car requires route and contingency planning, but it’s similar to traveling long distances in a gas-powered car. For a successful trip in an electric car, use a few or all of these ideas:

Plan your route ahead of time. By using a map app that shows EV charging stations, you can make sure that you have your route planned. Some of the more popular apps include EVgo, Chargepoint, ChargeHub, and EV Connect. Certain EVs also have this map built directly into the car’s touch screen, which can save you a step.

When you plan your route, look for charging stations that also offer food or entertainment options. This can help you maximize your stop efficiency.

Have a contingency plan. This could mean charging more often to stay on the safe side or adding

towing and labor coverage

to your policy so you don’t get stranded.
