How do I remove the center console on a 2002 Ford Explorer?
I need to remove the center console on my 2002 Ford Explorer to do some work on the air conditioner, but I’m not sure how to take it off. Are there any tricks to take off the center console without much hassle?

Removing the center console of a 2002 Ford Explorer is a necessity to repair or conduct maintenance on either the radio or the air conditioner. Fortunately, it’s easy to remove with some basic tools.
To remove the center console, follow these steps:
- Start by removing the rear cup holder.
- Once this is removed, you can pry off the back portion of the center console (the part with the air vents attached).
- Remove the harness/connector from the back portion.
- Remove the hex bolts from the bottom of the console, which you can access from the backseat.
- Next, open the center console area and remove the four bolts inside.
- Remove the screws from the front of the console up near the radio or where people usually keep their phone or change.
- Pry out the front of the console area using a flathead screwdriver.
- Remove the connector harness.
After completing these steps, you should have access to the panel underneath which houses the AC and radio components.
