How do I qualify for classic car insurance?

I have a 1977 Datsun 280Z that I just bought and put a new engine in. It's a cool sports car, and I'm super psyched to have it—but I don't know if it's technically considered a classic car. Can I qualify for classic car insurance with my Datsun?

“Congrats on the awesome car—and that’s a good question! Qualifying for
classic car coverage
varies from company to company, so you’ll have to reach out to your current insurer to see what their qualifications are. However, most companies have the following criteria for classic car insurance:
  • Car must be classed as classic by the insurance company, which typically means it has to be at least 25 years old
  • Must be garaged
  • Low mileage per year, typically between 5,000 and 7,000 miles
  • Regular driving with an alternative vehicle
  • Proof of regular maintenance
Some companies may also require a
clean driving record
and a minimum driver age of 25 years old.
If you fit this criteria, congrats! If not, you can use the
Jerry
app to try and find a plan that may still give you classic coverage—we’ll get you dozens of customized quotes from top providers in under a minute, so all you need to do is choose the plan that works best for you!
Congrats again, and enjoy your new ride!”
