How do I open the gas tank on a 2019 Ford Explorer?
I recently bought a used 2019 Ford Explorer that’s in great condition, but now I need to fill it up for the first time and I can’t figure out how to open the fuel filler door. How do I open the gas tank on a 2019 Ford Explorer?

Getting to know your new car can be a lot of fun, and we can help you get into your gas tank to fill it up. There is no interior latch to open the tank door. Instead, just follow these steps:
- Locate the fuel filler door on the rear side of your car.
- Press on the center of the rear edge of this door, if it’s located on the left-hand side. If it’s on the right-hand side, press the center front edge of the fuel tank door.
- When the door opens, you’ll see there is no gas cap. Instead, there’s just a valve. Simply insert the fuel pump and start filling!
Make sure to use regular unleaded gasoline. Your tank holds 18.6 gallons of fuel, and it gets just up to 19 mpg in the city and up to 27 on the highway. That means you’ll be filling it up with some frequency!
