How do I open a Honda Civic key fob?

Sometimes the buttons work on my key fob, and sometimes they don’t. I think it just needs new batteries (I hope). How do I open a Honda Civic key fob?

To open a
Honda Civic
key fob, you may need a precision screwdriver—or you may need to locate the tiny knob on the back.
Your key fob is either a smart fob or a physical key with buttons.
In a smart fob, look for the tiny knob on the back. Toggle it and remove the value key from inside the fob. Then, use the valet key to gently pry apart the two halves of the fob. Place the tip of the key inside the small notch. Now you can replace the old battery with a new CR 2032 battery!
If you have a physical key with rounded or rectangular buttons, flip the fob over and locate the tiny screw in the back. You will need a precision screwdriver like one from a jeweler’s set. Press into the screw to get some traction and unscrew the back. Use the screwdriver in the notch on the side to gently pry the two halves apart. You will need a CR 1620 battery for this fob.
Once you replace your fob battery, now might be a good time to make sure you’re happy with your
car insurance
coverage. It’s way easier to switch to a new company than it is to switch a battery—seriously! Use the free
