backyard) is a highly respectable endeavor—kudos to you! We definitely don’t want earwigs to gnaw on your parade, though. Here are a few tips on how to keep earwigs out of the garden: - Reduce or eliminate moisture (as much as you can without hurting your garden)
- Put a “moat” of dry dirt, sand, or gravel around your garden beds (earwigs tend to only travel in moist soil, so this can hinder them)
- Set earwig traps by wetting rolled up newspaper and leaving it out overnight, then burning, bleaching, or boiling the roll in the morning (earwigs will crawl into it overnight)
You can also use pesticides as a last resort—however, note that pesticides will also kill helpful insects like ladybugs and bees.
