How do I insure my car for a driving test?

I'm borrowing my mom's car for a driving test, but I don't have a license yet. The DMV says I need insurance to take the test—so how does this work? How do I insure the car so I can complete the exam?

“Congratulations on taking your final step toward getting your license!
As you mentioned, the DMV will require
proof of car insurance
when you go to take the driving test. The good news is that your parents’ car insurance will cover you for the driving test in most cases. Many policies extend this coverage to permit drivers taking the test under a permissive use clause.
When you go to the exam, you’ll just need to provide proof of insurance, which is typically just the insurance card. If possible, bringing your mom with you to the exam should smooth over the entire process, as the primary insured name on the policy is present and giving you consent to use the car.
Since you’re about to become a new driver (fingers crossed), you may want to think about a car or car insurance of your own. For an easy way to do this, check out the
