I want to get my 10-year driving record in California to see what’s on it, as I’ve seen my car insurance rates rise for seemingly no reason. What do I need to do to get my 10-year driving record in the Golden State?

Obtaining your driving record to see what’s on it can definitely help you discover if anything is amiss or if there’s something that you don’t know about. To get your 10-year driving record in California, you can use either the phone, online, by mail or in person. Here’s how to do it:
- Go to the DMV’sDriver’s Record Request pageand provide your information. Pay the $2 fee for an unofficial record or $5 for an official record.
- Call 1-916-657-8098 and have the record mailed to you.
- Go to the DMV and fill out an INF 1125 form.
- Print out the INF 1125 form, include the $5 payment, and mail it to: DMV Information Release Unit MS G199 PO Box 944247 Sacramento, CA 94244
Note that the only charges that stick for 10 or more years are serious incidents, such as a DUI or accidents involving bodily injury or death. So unless you have something to that effect on your car insurance, most insurers will only look back about three to five years to determine what rate to charge you.
