I’m sorry to hear your ATV engine locked up while you were offroading the other day! Fortunately, you can easily unlock your ATV engine if you follow these steps:
Remove the spark plugs. Grasp the spark plug using a 5/8 socket wrench, twist it, and gently pull the spark plug straight out. Repeat this step until you’ve removed the spark plugs from all the cylinders in the engine.
Fill the cylinders with engine oil. Pour engine oil into the top of the cylinders. The amount of oil you use will depend on the size of the engine. A 4-cylinder engine usually requires around 5 quarts of oil to fill the cylinders.
Reinstall the spark plugs. Insert the spark plug and tighten it by hand or using a socket wrench. Make sure to not over tighten the spark plug or you’ll damage the threads.
After you let your engine sit for a few days, try starting your ATV. If your engine turns over and moves then you’ve successfully unlocked your ATV motor! If the problem persists, it may be time to rebuild your engine altogether.
