How do I fix a ding in my car door?
I opened my car door and inadvertently hit the support pole in my garage. It left a bit of a ding, but it’s nothing too serious. Can I fix the ding in my car door on my own, or should I take my car to the auto body?

Dings in your car door happen. Luckily, they’re pretty easy to fix on your own with tools like dent-pullers!
Dent pullers come in a wide array of price ranges and capabilities. So you could find one as cheap as $10 or as expensive as $100. While cheaper models are essentially suction cups, expensive ones can be more complex.
To use a suction-cup style dent puller:
- Place the suction cup over your dent.
- Clamp down the airlock.
- Use the pump/lever to remove excess air from the pump.
- Pull to remove the dent.
While more complex models vary in design, one of the more popular options is a spring-mounted puller attached to a disc with hot glue on it. Instructions will vary widely between models, but you’ll generally attach the hot glue to the center of the dent and use the spring-mounted puller to pull it out.
If the dent is too big to fix on your own, you can consider filing a car insurance claim with your
collision coverage
