How can I fight a charge for driving with a suspended license in Ontario? I don’t want to pay the fine, but I had to use my car to get to work. I don’t know how else I can continue to support myself.

I’m sorry to hear that; it sounds really stressful. There are two ways that you can fight a driving with a suspended license charge in Ontario:
- You can hire a traffic lawyer
- You can defend yourself
Typically, it’s best to hire a lawyer in these situations. Traffic lawyers will be knowledgeable about traffic court, laws, and loopholes that could get you out of the charge. They might also know people who work for the court or know the arresting officer, giving you an advantage before you ever set foot in the courtroom.
If you decide to defend yourself, however, your best bet will be to find a way to
reinstate your license
, then provide proof to the court that your license is valid.When you show up to court, you should bring any witnesses or evidence that you think could help your case. You’ll need to prove that you tried to avoid the driving offense and that you had no other choice but to drive with a suspended license.
