Owning any car for 20 years is an accomplishment and a sign of great maintenance and upkeep. While replacing the clutch is a more advanced repair, you can still do it with the right tools and some determination.
To change the clutch, you will need to do the following:
Put the Ranger on jack stands.
Drain the transmission fluid.
Take out the starter, making sure to remove the connection to the battery beforehand.
Remove the shifter on the interior of the vehicle.
Disconnect anything attached to the transmission.
Remove the transmission bolts.
Take out the flywheel and other clutch components.
Put the new clutch components into the transmission.
Replace the transmission and put transmission fluid in before you start the vehicle.
If the repair is over your head, don’t feel bashful about taking your car to the repair shop; even experts can take days to complete this repair. Just expect to fork out about $800 to $1,000 for the repair.
