How can you increase the speed of an electric remote control car?

I can’t decide if I need to upgrade my RC car or if it's just time to replace it. Is there a way I can increase the speed without getting a totally new car?

If you have a race coming up and feel like your RC car isn’t quite up to speed, there are a few things you can do before going out and getting a totally new one, such as:
  • Adjusting the gear ratio. Adjusting gears can give you a higher top speed or faster acceleration.
  • Changing out your tires. Depending on what surface you’re racing on, you might not have the right tires.
  • Lightening up the load. If there are any extraneous parts on your car that could be slowing it down, lose them to increase speed.
  • Getting a new battery or motor. You might not need to replace the entire car if you just upgrade the power supply.
