To mount a winch, you’ll have to follow a few steps and familiarize yourself with the basic parts of the winch. They are:
Gear casing and gear train
Since a winch is a high-powered, heavy-duty piece of equipment, safety during installation is essential. Stay patient and wear proper safety attire.
Before mounting your winch, be sure you fully understand how it works.Once you are prepared to mount the winch, decide where you want to mount it for the sake of usefulness and ease of installation.
To mount the winch, you’ll need a steel mounting frame. The positions it can be mounted in are:
Foot down OR foot forward
Foot forward AND foot down
Each of these positions corresponds to the placement of the winch mounting holes. Refer to your winch’s specific instructions as to which mounting style is appropriate. Some winches aren’t able to be mounted in the foot down position.
After choosing the correct mount position, secure the mount and winch with dacromet coated bolts and spring washers. Keep the winch greased to prevent any issues while mounting. Once it is successfully mounted, you can begin working on the electrical components.
